See this tire? This is one of the tires my car came with.

And you may note the size is 175/65r15

That is not the stock size.

Stock apparently is 195/55r15

I discovered this when I was doing some preliminary tire and wheel research as I’ll have to replace these tires before next winter.

This size discrepancy means (based on a tire size calculator) the circumference of my tires are 2-3 percent bigger than OEM.

This also means when I drive,  my speedometer shows a speed that is a little slower than I’m actually going. I confirmed this today with a GPS-based speedometer app on my phone.

Aaaand... this also means my MPG figures are being reported 2-3 percent lower than they should be since I’m covering more distance than what the odometer indicates.

((Sidenote: recently made a new fuel economy record on a recent tank... 5.3L/100km... and that’s before adjusting for the oversized tires)

And finally... it also has the effect of making my car a little slower to accelerate.

So now I’m thinking that when I replace my tires, I’ll also replace these crappy steelies with crappy plastic covers (which clearly didn’t come off of a Fit) with some used 14” OEM alloy wheel with a tire size much closer to stock.

I might go with the 14” alloy wheels Accords or Preludes had in the 1990s. I already checked and confirmed there are some available at boneyards local to me.

Just run the steelies without the covers :o)

I might. But sticking with 15” wheels and moving to a stock tire circumference means /55 ratio sidewalls.

I would rather have the additional sidewall a 14” wheel would give me.

I’m part of the growing rebellion against needlessly low profile tires that cause needlessly harsh rides, increased unsprung weight, increased chances of damaged wheels and it  doesn’t improve handling in a meaningful way for day to day use.

I agree with the ge neral concept, but never had a problem with 55 series, I don’t even know if that would be considered low profile these days (also have had a Fit Sport with stock wheels bought new in 2006. Never a problem with the wheel/tire. Never a problem with the car really.

Accords/Preludes are 4x114 bolt pattern, while Civics/Integras/Fits are 4x100. It is difficult to find decent tires in 15” let alone 14”. Unless you want racing tires, they make those in all sizes.

Yeah, that was the old sway bar end link that I replaced with a new part... and I greased the new part as well as the one on the other side.

The old part was prematurely worn and made knocking sounds  due to never having been properly greased for a long time.

I totally agree with you on the modern no-profile tires

Get the Vredestein Quatrac 5 in the size 175/65-14 with the wheels of your choice. Tire Rack has some cool-looking MSW wheels, but they don’ t carry any good tires in your size, and Discount Tire has cheaper wheels than TR has.

I had a 2008 Sport with the 15” alloys. Never had a problem with flats or the ride or anything else wheel/tire- related.  55 really isn’t all that low profile.  I would just get the proper size on the 15” steelies until you cam find some Fit alloys.

Accord and Prelude wheels  won’t fit as they had 5x114.3 bolt patterns... at least the USD Accord idk about the accords in other markets as it’s a smaller car. The prelude tho has always been 4x114.3 not the 4x100 on a Fit or pre 05 Civic.

Integra LS Wheels are my favorite 14”  4x100 Honda Wheels. Had some on my 01 Civic
